Coach’s Message

This is a team for serious younger players that are looking for something more than their local town travel or recreational team.  In addition, we are looking for highly coachable and athletic players, with good attitudes and work ethic, that have a strong interest and desire to play on the 18U Elite College Showcase team and ultimately at the collegiate level. While every player may not ultimately be able to make that transition, for various reasons, our commitment is to work with each player individually to seriously try and make it happen.  Taking and churning players for the sake of filling a roster is not what we are about.

All the coaching techniques, strategies and mentoring will be similar to what is being accomplished with the 18U Elite team.  While the level will be adjusted to the skill set and abilities of the selected 16U team members our goal is to have a consistent approach between our teams.

If you are looking for a team that has proper development of skills, both on and off the field, as its primary focus that also has a path towards a Northeast Regional college showcase experience, then we could be the team for you.

18U Elite Team

18U Elite – Age as of December 31, 2013. (Usually born in 1995 or 1996)

Coach’s Message

The collective coaching and mentoring philosophy of the 18U Elite program is focused solely on preparing our players to successfully compete both on and off the field at the collegiate level.  This will include for all our players and parents the proper help and hands on guidance with the college recruiting and selection process.

We will be conducting formal hitting clinics in the off-season with one of the best hitting coaches in the area who has coached and prepared numerous successful Division I collegiate players.  In addition, beginning in January we will have formal in-door workouts where we will work with each player both individually and as part of the team on the proper defensive strategies and skills used at the collegiate level.  All this effort is geared in the short term to prepare our players to have successful individual showcase experiences as well as team success in the summer and in the long term to be a standout at their collegiate tryouts.

Coach’s Highlights

The coaches for the 18U Elite team are Rob Spofford and Ashley Lippert.

Rob Spofford has recently been named the Head Softball Coach at Emmanuel College in Boston where he will have total responsibility for all aspects of the program direction and recruiting.

Prior to joining Emmanuel, Rob was on the staff of the highly successful Emerson College Division III softball program as an Assistant Coach to Head Coach Phil McElroy.  During his tenure with Emerson he help lead the Lion program to a three (3) year GNAC regular season record of 66-8  and two (2) GNAC Conference Finals appearances.

Rob had been the Head Varsity Softball Coach at Cohasset HS.  In his second full season as head coach he took Cohasset (20-4) to the MIAA Division III 2009 State Semi Final where they lost to eventual State Champion – St. Mary’s - 4-3 in 9 innings.   Rob has been successfully coaching at the Junior Olympic level for the past 10 years at various age groups.  Rob is an active member of the National Fastpitch Coaches Association and has achieved the Level 3 ASA ACE Coaching Certification.

Ashley Lippert joined the Thunder program in 2009 as a pitching and assistant head coach.  Ashley will be joining the Emmanuel College coaching staff for the 2012-2013 season, where she will have total responsibility for the pitching staff.  Ashley was an accomplished pitcher, in her own right, for John Carroll University, graduating in 2008.  Ashley earned numerous awards and honors during her stellar high school and collegiate career and was an integral part of the success at John Carroll University.  We are fortunate to have on staff a quality pitching coach of Ashley’s caliber which has been extremely helpful in the development of both pitchers and catchers.

This coaching combination brings to the Thunder program the most up to date and cutting edge collegiate offensive, defensive and pitching strategies, from both a player and coach perspective.  This expertise will help properly prepare the players to successfully compete for positions at the next level.

Please contact Rob Spofford, with any questions or further information on the 18U Elite program or team in general.

23U Tryouts

The 23U team roster is currently completed for the 2013 summer season.

This is a highly competitive team made up of current collegiate Division I, II & III players that are looking to keep their skills sharp while at the same time having fun.

All roster positions are considered for the right player. In addition, all players must currently be playing at the collegiate or high school levels. We would consider high school seniors that want to get a head start by playing with and against current collegiate players.

The summer schedule is to play a total of five (5) tournaments beginning in early June all in the Greater Northeast New England and Boston area.

Please contact Coach Al Saluti with any specific questions about the 23U team or Thunder program in general.
